Joey Harrington’s 2nd Annual Cook-off Fundraiser for Oregon Students Set for August 1
The Great Summer Chef Off will feature some of the region’s top chefs competing in a BBQ cook-off; event benefits charities that support children and their right to high-quality education
PORTLAND, Ore. — The Harrington Family Foundation will hold The 2nd Annual Great Summer Chef Off on August 1, starting at 6 p.m. at Bladberry Farm on Sauvie Island. The Chef Off will bring together select Portland chefs for a BBQ cook-off event to support the Foundation and its mission to better the lives of children in Oregon by giving them access to high-quality education.
All proceeds benefit the Oregon Community Quarterback Scholarship program, which each year awards four, four-year $2,500 scholarships to emerging Oregon high school student leaders facing financial hurdles. The scholarships provide them the opportunity to attend an Oregon university, college or trade school.
Presented by Parr Lumber, the cook-off will feature food prepared by Greg and Gabrielle Denton of Ox, Rick Gencarelli of Lardo, Chris Thompson and Hilary Benson of Iorio, and Aaron Barnett of St. Jack. Farm-to-cone ice cream from Salt & Straw will be served for dessert. Beer, wine and whiskey tasting will complement the delicious food served, with beer provided by Migration Brewery and wine tasting coordinated by Domain Drouhin. Award-winning blues musician Lisa Mann will provide live entertainment for the evening.
Tickets to the event cost $125 per person and can be purchased online. Event tables (10 people) may also be purchased for $1,250.
The event will also include a silent auction and raise-the-paddle segment.Only 300 tickets will be sold with all proceeds going to the Foundation and its mission to support the higher education of Oregon students. Guests will be able to cast their votes for the chef with the best BBQ, who will donate $5,000 to an Oregon children’s charity of his or her choice.
The 2014 event was a great success, with 182 people in attendance and $45,000 raised for the scholarship program.
The Foundation holds a number of other fundraisers each year to raise money for children, including two annual golf tournaments and Bridges to Breakers, a bike ride from Portland to Gearhart.
