Back for its third year, Parr Lumber Great Summer Chef Off guests gathered at Bladberry Farm on Sauvie Island to eat and drink for a worthy cause: funding the Oregon Community Quarterback Scholarship. The scholarship program is the heart of the Harrington Family Foundation’s mission, which seeks out Oregon’s most promising emerging student leaders headed to an Oregon college, university or trade school, and provides them with financial and mentorship support.
The format for the Great Summer Chef Off is simple: three of the area’s top chefs/restaurants go grill-to-grill, competing for the winning prize, a chance to donate $5,000 to the children’s charity of their choice. Blues artist, Lisa Mann, serenades the group during the wine and dine stage, culminating with Joey’s emceeing the live auction and paddle raise.
It’s a casual affair, and for Portland foodies, it’s the perfect chance to indulge for a great cause … and catch a stunning sunset while they’re at it. 2016 went off without a hitch, and after three years, OX, a veteran chef/restaurant, took home the winning spot with their “Filet Cheesesteak”: Coal Roasted Beef Tenderloin with Truffled Cheese Sauce and Peppers, Mushrooms & Onion on Grilled Bread and Housemade Kennebec Potato Chips with Green Peppercorn & Vinegar. It was clearly a hit with guests! OX Restaurant competed on behalf of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Thank you again to this year’s partners, who make this event possible and continue to help fund our Oregon Community Quarterback Scholarship Program: Parr Lumber, Willamette Valley Vineyards, Domaine Drouhin Oregon, Argyle Winery, Full Sail Brewing, Lardo, OX Restaurant, Renata, and Salt & Straw.
