Former Oregon Ducks and NFL quarterback Joey Harrington opens new restaurant
Pearl Tavern set to open December 1, 2016
PORTLAND, Ore. — Former University of Oregon and National Football League quarterback
Joey Harrington opens his first restaurant, Pearl Tavern, on December 1 in The Parish’s former
location in the heart of the Pearl District.
Joining forces with ChefStable owner/restaurateur Kurt Huffman, and notable bartender Ryan
Magarian of Aviation Gin and Oven & Shaker, the three Portland natives have crafted a modern
Pacific Northwest tavern focused on thoughtful comfort food and a whimsical whiskey-focused
cocktail list. Inspired by timeless pubs—where ‘everybody knows your name’—Pearl Tavern
aims to bring a sense of community to the Pearl District while celebrating Oregon’s best locally
sourced food and drink.
With Coopers Hall’s former head chef Chef Roscoe Roberson at the helm, and former St. Jack
sommelier Joel Gunderson in charge of its wine program, Pearl Tavern will be open seven days
a week serving bar ‘grabs’ and dinner from 4pm to 1am, adding brunch and lunch service at a
later date. The menu’s focal point is its grilled steak and fish dinners. Guests will enjoy Chef
Roscoe’s twist on nostalgic comfort food like filet mignon poutine and crispy octopus, and
dinner plates of sweet tea double cut pork loin and fried chicken pot pie. The food and
beer/wine taplist are sourced within 100 miles of Pearl Tavern.
“We’re not coming in from San Francisco to capitalize on the growth of Portland. We’re
passionate Oregonians here to create something that is long-standing and tied to the
community. We’re drawing on the industry expertise of ChefStable, talent of Ryan Magarian,
and my connection with the community, to create a place where you can feel comfortable
hanging out after work in a suit and tie or t-shirt and jeans, and eat really good food in an
unfussy atmosphere. This is a gathering place for the city of Portland where everyone is
welcome,” says Joey.
Though not designed as a celebrity sports bar, Pearl Tavern will have five flat screen televisions
built into its bar shelving, with sound on only for big games. Memorabilia from Oregon sports
teams and influential Oregon athletes will be subtly displayed around the restaurant.
Three percent of the tavern’s proceeds will benefit Joey’s Harrington Family Foundation, a
501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides secondary education scholarships and mentorship
support to Oregon student leaders in financial need.
Reservations can be made through www.pearltavernpdx.com or OpenTable.
