Harrington Family Foundation Announces Scholarship Increase
Portland, Ore. – In 2014, under the direction of Joey Harrington, the Harrington Family Foundation (HFF) established its Oregon Community Leadership Scholarship with the financial capability to support 16 students at $10,000 per student in perpetuity. Through fundraising efforts and a maturing endowment, the Foundation had the privilege of increasing the scholarship twice: to $16,000 per student in 2017, and to $20,000 per student in 2021, where it has remained to date.
Due to the generosity of Oregon communities at large through their annual fundraisers such as the Bourbon Barrel Benefit, Safeway Foundation Battle at Bandon, Safeway Albertsons Huddle Up for Oregon, and Sneakers for Scholarships, the Foundation has the honor of making its third official scholarship increase, raising the scholarship commitment from $20,000 to $25,000 per student in perpetuity.
Specifically impactful to the Foundation’s fundraising success in 2024 was the Huddle Up for Oregon campaign that operated in Oregon Safeway and Albertsons store during the summer of 2024. Proven to be an overwhelming success, the initiative raised $297,899.24 through in-store pin pad donations and participating brand purchases made by store patrons.
In addition to its scholarship increase the Foundation is thrilled to announce the addition of a fifth $25,000 scholarship in perpetuity. “Since launching the scholarship program in 2014 we have been focused on a dual effort to increase resources for our current recipients while also growing the Foundation’s endowment to support adding a fifth scholarship in perpetuity. This is a milestone for the Foundation. It’s something we have worked toward for the last decade. I am so thankful to all our supporters – the individuals who have donated at the register, purchased a raffle ticket, and shared about our program with their local community. Local businesses who have partnered with us at our Battle at Bandon event and online raffles have made a huge impact on our progress. We can help more students reach their potential because of this collective effort,” remarked Joey Harrington, Harrington Family Foundation’s Founder and President.
The Oregon Community Leadership Scholarship is a renewable four-year collegiate scholarship program eligible for current Oregon high school seniors who are emerging leaders, and plan to attend an Oregon trade school, college or university. The program is intended to facilitate the growth of promising leaders in the state of Oregon by developing the skills needed to flourish their local communities through personalized mentorship and financial assistance. The program has historically awarded four scholarships annually. Beginning in spring 2025, five community leadership scholarships will be awarded to Oregon student leaders.
Applications for the 2025 Oregon Community Leadership Scholarship will go live online on December 15, 2024. The 2025 application deadline is March 21, 2025. Scholarship recipients will be awarded in early May 2025.
