IS THIS A MERIT SCHOLARSHIP?

No, this scholarship is not based on a student’s academic achievement. It is a financial need-based scholarship awarding Oregon students who demonstrate exceptional leadership in their local community.

IS THIS SCHOLARSHIP VALID AT TRADE SCHOOL?

Yes, it is! The Oregon Community Leadership Scholarship applies to any accredited university, college, or trade school in the state of Oregon.

CAN AN UNDOCUMENTED STUDENT APPLY?

Yes. The guidelines do not specify that you need to be a US citizen.

WHAT IS REQUIRED OF ME TO RENEW MY SCHOLARSHIP EACH YEAR?

Three primary requirements of the scholarship exist in order to renew it each fall: you must be enrolled full-time at an accredited Oregon university, college or trade school, maintain a 2.5 GPA, and attend the program’s biannual scholarship-mentorship gathering.

WHAT INFORMATION DO I NEED TO COMPLETE THE APPLICATION?

You will need to submit your FAFSA Student Aid Report to verify financial need, complete personal and academic questions, a one-page essay, provide an explanation about your extracurricular activities/service and internships/jobs, and ask two recommenders to provide a letter of reference. You are not required to provide any transcripts or SAT/ACT scores. Please note, for financial eligibility your Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) from the FAFSA may not exceed $6,206.

DO I NEED TO COMPLETE THE APPLICATION IN ONE SITTING?

No, you do not have to complete the application in one sitting. When you apply via SlideRoom you can log back in at any time and finish the application. Once you submit your appliction you will receive an email confirmation from SlideRoom. You cannot make changes to your application once it has been submitted.

I TOOK A GAP YEAR. CAN I STILL APPLY FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP?

No, the scholarship guidelines state you need to be a high school senior when you apply, with plans to attend full time at an Oregon college or trade school in the subsequent fall.

WHEN CAN I APPLY?

The scholarship application goes live in January of the academic year in which you are applying. The 2023 application closes on March 10, 2023. You are responsible for ensuring your recommenders submit their letter of reference via the SlideRoom portal by March 10, 2023.

The Harrington Family Foundation Scholarship Committee will review applications through the spring, and notify award winners via telephone the first week of May.
